A
Great Day to Walk/Bike to School
Recently,
local schools took another step in increasing physical activity
and encouraging students and adults to work together to improve
their health. Nolan Elementary, Big Ridge Elementary and Normal
Park Elementary schools all participated in the Safe Routes To School
day. Activate Chattanooga, led by Melissa Taylor, is an organization
consisting of city planners and engineers, bike safety coordinators,
health professionals, police officers, school faculty, concerned
parents and others dedicated to finding ways to create a more active
living community. The goal is to have families meet at pre-determined
locations so parents can chaperone children as they walk or bike
to school and for this to become a regularly occurring theme. Step
ONE is proud to be a part of Activate Chattanooga and supports all
programs that increase the value of health.
